Penny Classic or Penny "Nickel" ?
So the difference between the 2 boards is quite obvious, but many people still have the question: Classic or Nickel? So obviously if you are a big person you would probably want to go with the Nickel, but by no means does that mean that the classic is off limits. I personally wear a size 13 shoe and can ride the Penny classic just perfectly. So other than the size, there is a very big difference in the ride of these 2 boards. The Nickel rides like a longboard, while the Classic feels a bit more like a traditional skateboard. Regardless of size, these boards are cruisers and you seriously don't want to get them for tricks. They ride nicely and will pay off in the long run.
Get the Penny Nickel: If you are a foot size 12 or more, or a nube to skating and want to learn how to ride.
Get the Penny Classic: If you are looking for an extremely versatile board that you can take anywhere, literally everywhere!
Like i've said before, you really don't want to overpay for these bad boys so CLICK HERE if you want to get a NICKEL for much cheaper than full price. And CLICK HERE if you want to get the PENNY CLASSIC for a cheaper price.
The Penny "Nickel" Experience
So I spoke about the classic penny board in another, and now it's time for the famous Penny "Nickel." This board is larger than the classic, and - oh boy - does it make a difference. This board is made of the same materials as the classic, but is typically bought by individuals with bigger feet or new riders.
So I personally love this board, and well it's the only penny I can really fit on. My foot size is 13 so you can imagine what I mean. Before riding this board I had only rode a normal skateboard, and to be honest it really took about a day to get used to the ride of this bad boy. So to give you all a feel for this board, it is smaller than a normal skateboard but gives the feel of a longboard. I know that sounds weird, but trust me the trucks are really wide and loose so it feels like you are riding a full blown longboard.
This board, by the nature of it, is a bit more expensive than the normal penny. If you customize it on the Penny website it is $120, but ain't nobody got money to pay full price. Click here to go to the amazon page for the Penny "Nickel." You may have your doubts about the authenticity of the Penny "Nickel" from Amazon, but I personally got it from there and I saved $30 in the process so why the hell not?!
The Classic Penny Board Experience
Well in a few words: the penny board is sheer awesomeness. Originally the Penny Company was only in Australia, but they have grown and now ship all across the world. These boards are made of plastic, these boards are modeled off of boards from the 70's. If you order from their website you can customize every aspect of the board from the board color to colors of each screw on the deck.
When first riding the classic penny, it almost felt like a roller skate on one foot. Though this comes from a guy who has experience in skateboarding, everyone's first impression is usually "wow that is small". The penny company has obviously realized that and made a bigger size called the "Nickel" which I discuss in another article. These boards ride smooth, and I mean really really smooth. These wide rubbery tires really do make riding on uneven surfaces and rubble a breeze whereas it is a bit of a hassle on traditional boards.
This board really is a cruiser, and not made for tricks. Lets get one thing straight, if you plan to do tricks you should really go with a traditional wooden board. The plastic on the dip of the penny board can get scratched up fairly easily if you attempt to even do ollies, but there is a protector you can buy for this. Sooo, having that said this board is awesome for cruising. I am a college student and boy does this come in handy. The penny is so much more convenient than a bike for obvious reasons.
So, like I mentioned, the penny board can be customized and bought from the penny website, but if you are like the rest of the world and want to save a buck there is another way. While on the official website the Penny runs for $100, you can get the same authentic thing on amazon for cheaper. Click here to go to the amazon page where you can get the same exact authentic board for $20 cheaper. You are welcome Internet.
